It was then scrapped at Berllevue in November of 1955. Specs - serial #5429, H-5a class, 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 25x32" cylinders, engine wt of 287,000 lb, and tractive effort of 48,600This is an H. N. Proctor photo. |

In May of 1958, it was stored at Bellevue, OH yard. Subsequently it was dropped from the roster in August of 1960 and finally sold for scrap in October of 1963 to the Luntz Iron & Steel Company. Here is a 2-8-2 Mikado built by Lima in December of 1920 for NKP as #612. In May of 1922 it had a trailer booster added which bumped up the tractive force to 64,100 lb from 54,700 lb but removed later in 1950. In October of 1926, a BL feedwater heater and air pumps were added to the pilot deck. It was "laid up" (retired) in January of 1954 and eventually sold in August of 1954 for scrap to Luntz Iron & Steel. This is a Prescott photo. |

Barrelling down the tracks and creating a trailing cloud of impressive smoke near Dear Creek, IL, with a seemingly endless string of tankers stretching behind is Nickel Plate Road #615. Built by Lima Locomotive Works of Ohio in 1920 as a class H-6b, it had 63" drivers, an overall engine+tender wheelbase of 61.19', and an engine wt 305,400 lb. Wish I could credit the photograhper for this beautiful action shot but none was listed. Sadly, it was scrapped sometime between 1945-1962. |

It also had 63" drivers, and overall engine+tender wheelbase of 61.19', and an engine wt 305,400 lb. Here it's pulling a mixed freight just west of Crandall, IL, on this May day in 1943. Sadly, it was scrapped sometime between 1945-1962. |

Burns noted on the photo back "One of the first engines given to a city for display. Now in sad shape, but are trying to fix it up. Also will fence it." August, 1970 reprint. |

Finally have a Nickel Plate Road photo taken in my state of Indiana. This beautiful loco was built by Lima in October of 1922 and served the Nickel Plate until being retired in December of 1954. The loco was later dontaed on 9/13/1955 to the city of Hammond, IN, where is remained on display for many years as this photo shows. Just within the last few years, it was moved to Fort Wayne, IN for restoration by the same group that rebuilt NKP 765. Hope to see it running the rails again!!! No photographer was listed for this photo. |

Built by Lima in December of 1923, the loco had several accidents in its history. The first being a high speed derailment at Edwardsville, IL, on 2/21/1942. Then on 4/27/1944, it was invovled in a head-on collision with NIP 521 at Fiar Grange, IL. Again. on 11/23/1944, it was wrecked in a high speed dreailment at Cyuga, IN. This time it was not rebuilt. The unlucky loco was scrapped in July of 1945. No date, location or photographer was given for this photo so approximates were used. |
